Our journey began with an early morning flight from JFK, touching down in Salt Lake City after a smooth five-hour journey. After picking up our rental van, we headed straight into the heart of the city to begin our exploration. Coming from the relentless pace of New York, the contrast was immediate and refreshing; the streets were remarkably quiet, clean, and spacious. We spent our first hours strolling through the downtown area, taking in the unique atmosphere of a city that felt both historic and incredibly well-maintained.
The architectural highlights of the city were truly a sight to behold. We visited the iconic Temple Square and were fortunate enough to step inside the Tabernacle during a choir rehearsal. Having only ever seen these landmarks on television, hearing the music fill the room in person was a soulful and unforgettable experience. We also made our way to the Cathedral of the Madeleine, which boasts stunning, intricate architecture, and took a moment to admire the grand exterior of the Utah State Capitol.

Just a short distance away, we visited Brigham Young Family Memorial Park, a peaceful hidden gem that offered a perfect moment of respite. We stayed for a while to enjoy the serene atmosphere, and it was the ideal spot to let Matthew stretch his legs and explore safely. The landscape was beautiful, featuring a quiet pond filled with vibrant flowers and an impressive, historic wooden water wheel that caught everyone's eye. Because our group was the only one there, the park felt like our own private sanctuary—completely still and remarkably quiet. It was a wonderful place to slow down, relax, and appreciate the craftsmanship of the park's design before continuing our city adventure.
Delta Center

As lifelong basketball fans, we couldn’t resist a stop at the Delta Center to stand where so much NBA history was made. Being there in person brought back vivid memories of my college days, when I was a die-hard fan of the Chicago Bulls during their legendary championship battles against the Utah Jazz. I remember the pure anxiety of watching those Finals games, especially when the series shifted to Salt Lake City. The atmosphere in the Delta Center always felt electric and intimidating through the screen, largely because of how difficult it was to play against a powerhouse led by the "Mailman" himself, Karl Malone. Seeing the arena in person was a nostalgic trip back to a time when every game felt like a heavyweight fight.
The experience of visiting the arena today, however, was much more relaxed than those high-stakes games of the past. One of the highlights of our tour was the surprising accessibility of the entire area; the city is exceptionally "drivable," with plenty of street parking and none of the frantic rush we are used to dealing with back home. It was a perfectly "chill" afternoon of roaming, allowing us to appreciate the modern culture of Salt Lake City at our own pace. Transitioning from the historic intensity of the Delta Center to a quiet stroll through the clean, open streets made for a balanced and memorable start to our trip.

Filipino Family Itinerary: Salt Lake City to Grand Teton

The travel was smooth and quite normal with no heavy traffic, allowing us to stay perfectly on schedule and enjoy the open road.
There was so much to take in at Grand Teton that we stayed longer than planned, only making our way to West Yellowstone as the sun began to set.
Our Trip to Grand Teton
Cruising past expansive valleys to reach the deep sapphire clearings of Jenny Lake.
Our road trip from Salt Lake City to Grand Teton National Park took over five hours, but for a big Filipino family group like ours, the scenic route made every moment worth it. We passed through vast, sprawling agricultural lands filled with a diverse variety of crops that stretched toward the horizon—a beautiful contrast to the cityscapes we are used to back home. As we approached the park, the landscape shifted dramatically into rolling hills and steep cliffs. The transition was exhilarating; the scenery transformed completely, culminating in the stunning sight of snow-capped peaks glistening under the summer sun. We eventually found the perfect vantage point to capture family photos and videos with the iconic mountains as our stunning backdrop.
Once inside the park, we headed straight toward Jenny Lake, where the natural beauty continued to surprise us. As Filipinos traveling through the American wilderness, we were absolutely thrilled during our walk when we spotted a wild fox and other local wildlife blending seamlessly into the brush. Despite the massive summer crowds of tourists, the atmosphere remained vibrant. We took a boat ride across the sparkling water to reach the trailhead for the falls. The hike uphill was quite a workout—especially while carrying the little ones—but reaching the summit was a breathtaking reward. From the top, we were treated to a panoramic overview of the entire lake framed by the majestic Teton Range. It was a incredible perspective that truly put the grand scale of this wilderness into focus for our family adventure.

Hidden Falls Adventure
Braving high holiday crowds and scaling rugged terrain for a cinematic view.
We Filipinos love to explore and see as much as we can on our travels. On this trip, we took a boat toward the other side of Jenny Lake. Because it was vacation season right before the 4th of July, Grand Teton was absolutely packed, and the line to get on board was incredibly long with crowds of people waiting. Fortunately, the weather was beautiful—sunny with a cool, refreshing breeze—so when our turn finally arrived, we all happily boarded the boat for a quick, scenic cruise across the water.
Once we landed, the real challenge began. The trail was a steady uphill climb toward the falls, and I had to carry my son, Matthew, the entire way. While the overall distance wasn't too far, the constant elevation made for a grueling trek. However, reaching the summit made every ounce of effort worth it when we finally stood before the breathtaking waterfall. On our way back down, we were treated to a stunning, panoramic view of Jenny Lake that was so beautiful we just had to stop and take pictures.
Heading back to the docks, we faced the exact same scenario as before: another massive line and a long wait. Despite the delay, we still considered ourselves incredibly lucky because we managed to secure spots on the very last boat trip of the day, bringing a memorable adventure to a perfect close.
